Severe storms popped up throughout the region during the Independence Day holiday on Monday into Tuesday. Amanda Penning with the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls said one tornado was confirmed about 4 miles northwest of Tabor in Bon Homme County at 4:05 PM on Monday.  She says spotters reported damage to a farmstead in that area as well.

Rainfall totals varied even within Mitchell.  Reported totals were .56 inches to 2 inches in town.  Alexandria reported 1.65 inches.  Avon reported .5 inches.  Brookings had a variety of totals as well from .5 inches to 1.5 inches.

There is a slight chance of showers heading into the weekend, and cooler temperatures are expected for the rest of the week.
