SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Sioux Falls could be inching closer to hosting the state’s new men’s prison, and city leaders are now weighing in. State Representative and prison task force member Greg Jamison just led Sioux Falls City Council members on a tour of potential prison sites in the city. He said it’s only fair they have a say. Council members toured the area near the current penitentiary to get a sense of the layout but agree with Mayor TenHaken that the 27 acres are too cramped and aren’t as close to the prison as many think. Two other sites on the city’s north side are now getting serious attention. Jamison says that location could cost more to build on but would avoid public backlash seen elsewhere. The final task force meeting is set for Tuesday in Sioux Falls. For more Government stories from MitchellNow.com, Click Here.
