MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Democratic Congressional candidate Sheryl Johnson spoke yesterday (Thursday September 5, 2024) at the Corn Palace Plaza.  She outlined her background; a child of farmers who lost their farm in the 1980’s farm crisis, a wife of an active-duty Navy man who was deployed overseas, a mother of four (now grown) daughters, a small businesswoman and a former school employee.

Johnson outlined her criticisms of the other Johnson, incumbent Republican Congressman Dusty Johnson.  Among her indictments is Representative Johnson’s tendency to show up at grand openings and other events made possible by President Biden’s Infrastructure Act, which Dusty Johnson voted against.  Sheryl Johnson called these appearances “hypocritical”.  She specifically referenced the ribbon cutting in Madison for the completion of the Lewis and Clark water project.

Sheryl Johnson criticized Congressman Johnson for voting against health benefits for veterans affected by tar and burn pits in the course of their service in Afghanistan.  She also castigated Congressman Johnson’s support of pharmaceutical companies by not voting to cap the price of insulin.  Other observations about Dusty Johnson’s record were noted as well as the open secret that the Congressman would like to be Governor in 2026.
