SIOUX FALLS S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Sioux Falls Police worked late into the night, sweeping the Empire Mall after there was an active shooting event.  The initial calls came in at about 7:30 after two to three shots were fired.  Police Chief Jon Thum (TOOM) says law enforcement and mall employees acted quickly to get everyone to safety.

Chief Thum says it was NOT a planned attack on the mall.  Instead, it appeared to spring out of a disagreement among a group of teens in the mall.  State Patrol Troopers and Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Deputies also responded to the event

Gang violence may have been involved.  Sioux Falls Police say there may have been a second shooter in Friday night’s active shooter incident in the Empire Mall.  18-year old Jaden Michael Justis Bingham is jailed on a 100-thousand-dollar bond.

Police Lieutenant Aaron Nyberg says two groups met in the mall by chance, and a dispute quickly escalated to gunfire. Police say it may be possible that gang violence was part of what led up to that.

In a separate case, police arrested Juan Flores in the city’s 14th homicide of this year.

He’s accused of stabbing Alonzo Little to death early Saturday morning, in an apparent case of domestic violence.

A juvenile female called in the assault.  She was in the home at the time, but was not harmed
