CHAMBERLAIN, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Due to recent rains, a sinkhole has developed on the north shoulder of Interstate 90 business loop, approximately one mile east of exit 260 between Chamberlain and Oacoma.  The area is down to one lane and the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) urges motorists to consider alternative routes.

The SDDOT originally had a project planned for next year to rehabilitate an 11-foot metal culvert that extends from north of the business loop road to the south, under both lanes of I-90.  That timeline has now been expedited with construction expected to be completed by fall.

The I-90 business loop between Chamberlain and Oacoma will fully reopen to traffic once the repair work is complete.
