SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The first homicide victim of 2024 in Sioux Falls has been identified.  28-year old Richard Sowers of Sioux Falls died at a hospital after undergoing emergency surgery after being shot multiple times.  Officers responded to an unknown problem at a downtown Sioux Falls apartment located on East 12th Street early Saturday morning.  When officers arrived just after 2:15 AM, they found Sowers. According to court documents, he was lying in the hallway of the apartment building, moaning and telling officers that he had been shot.  Sowers was not able to tell the first officer on scene who shot him.  An apartment tenant reported he heard a fight and opened his door to find Sowers on the floor. The tenant said he saw a man leave the scene quickly. The tenant described that man as being Native American with longer black hair, a beard, a mustache and standing about 6 feet tall with a larger build.  The suspect — 38-year-old Edward Brinkley of Sioux Falls — was arrested for second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a violent or drug-related convicted felon.  He was arrested without incident on Monday around 7:30 p.m. in the area of 10th and Cliff.  He remains at the Minnehaha County Jail on a $1 million bond.
