SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken is calling for stronger gun control laws to protect city employees and residents inside municipal buildings. Under current South Dakota law, firearms are banned in the state capitol and county courthouses—but not in city halls. According to KELOLand, TenHaken says that creates a safety gap, adding that state and county officials have metal detectors while city leaders do not. He says he’s discussed possible legal changes with legislators, arguing city buildings should have the same protections as state and county facilities.
