SIOUX FALLS, SD (Mitchell Now) — Sioux Falls Police are investigating two separate robberies that took place Sunday, each ending in an assault.
The first incident occurred around 8 p.m. near West University Trail and North Marion Avenue, where a man reportedly stole two bottles of whiskey from a store. Police say an employee followed the suspect outside and was assaulted, sustaining minor injuries.
Earlier that morning, officers were called to another business after a man spent several hours inside asking customers to buy him coffee. When employees told him to leave, he refused, went behind the counter to pour his own coffee, and again refused to leave.
According to Information Officer Aaron Benson, that’s when the situation escalated into an assault. The suspect was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. Police say no charges have been filed at this time as the investigation continues.
