PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELL NOW)  The South Dakota Legislature honored slain Moody County Chief Deputy Sheriff Kenneth Prorok this afternoon with a commemoration read on the Senate floor.

Republican Senate Majority Leader Casey Crabtree from Madison read SC807 at 1 p.m.–the same time as the funeral service for Deputy Prorok was starting in Madison at the Dakota State Fieldhouse.

The commemoration reads, in part:

WHEREAS, Ken epitomized courage, compassion, family values, integrity, professionalism, and selflessness, and despite acknowledging the dangers inherent in law enforcement, never faltered in his commitment to protecting and serving his community; and

WHEREAS, with his strong, commanding, and yet humble presence, Ken was always the first to respond to a crisis, lend a hand, or offer a shoulder to lean on;

A moment of silence followed the commemoration.
