(MITCHELLNOW) The case of a woman accused of stealing more than $1.7 million from the South Dakota Department of Social Services is moving forward in Hughes County court this week. Lonna Carroll is facing charges, and the proceedings are advancing quickly. According to court reports, testimony started almost immediately after opening statements. Witnesses confirmed that Carroll had access to the Department of Social Services’ Family and Child Information System, which allowed her to request and approve fund transfers from accounts for children under Child Protection Services.
