VERMILLION, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) South Dakota athletics has announced a new clear bag policy for all athletic events inside the Dakota Dome and the Sanford Coyote Sports Center beginning on Aug. 1. The policy has been put into place to ensure a safe and enjoyable game experience for all by modernizing security practices.
Each attendee will be allowed to enter with one clear bag: either a plastic, vinyl or PVC bag that does not exceed 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches or a one-gallon plastic freezer bag (Ziploc or similar). Small clutches – approximately the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap – can be taken into the stadium along with one of the clear bags. The clutch cannot be larger than 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches. Chain straps on any bag are prohibited.
All fans and their belongings are subject to inspection at stadium entrances. Fans are encouraged to allot additional time to get through security for games. Doors open 60 minutes prior to events in the Sanford Coyote Sports Center and 90 minutes prior to Coyote football games in the Dakota Dome.
Exceptions will be made for approved medical needs. Medical bags or equipment will be handled and inspected at gate entry.
Prohibited bags include, but are not limited to, purses larger than a clutch bag, backpacks, coolers, solid drawstring bags, camera bags, computer bags and bags larger than the permissible size.
Guests carrying bags that do not meet the criteria will be asked to return the items to their vehicles, hotel rooms or homes.
All season ticket holder accounts for the 2024 season will receive one complimentary clear bag that is compliant with USD’s new clear bag policy. Additional Coyote branded clear bags are available for purchase at the USD Charlie’s Store on Main Street, the MUC and usdcharliestore.com.
