MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — The South Dakota Department of Corrections is notifying law enforcement and the public about the pending release of a state prison offender classified as high risk.
Anthony Salinas, 62, is scheduled to be released from prison Friday, Sept. 18, after serving his entire 12-year sentence for aggravated assault in Minnehaha County, according to the South Dakota Department of Corrections.
Because Salinas is completing his full sentence, the department said he must be released and will not be under parole supervision. The DOC says sentence discharges include offenders who have served their maximum sentence and are released when their sentences expire.
“Due to this offender’s criminal history and an elevated risk of reoffending and violent behavior identified through institutional assessments, we are notifying law enforcement and the public about this release,” Corrections Secretary Nick Lamb said.
Salinas will be released to Sioux Falls. The DOC describes him as Hispanic, 5 feet, 7 inches tall and approximately 190 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
Under the department’s System Risk Level policy, Level 3 offenders receive high-risk release reviews and law enforcement notifications, with cases considered for public notification.
The DOC said this is the 23rd public notice of a pending high-risk offender release issued since 2011.
