MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) South Dakota is saying goodbye to a football legend this week. Doug Eggers, a Wagner native who played five seasons in the NFL, has died at the age of 93. Eggers was a standout linebacker at South Dakota State before joining the Baltimore Colts in 1954, where he played alongside Hall of Famer Johnny Unitas. Friends and teammates remember him as tough on the field, but a true gentleman off it. After football, Eggers ran his own business, but those who knew him say he always carried the grit and strength that made him a force on the field.
