The South Dakota House voted on Tuesday to impeach Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg.  The vote was 36-31.  The Senate will now conduct a trial.  Officials say Ravnsborg was distracted while driving on a rural highway after attending a political function.  He hit and killed 55-year old Joe Boever, who was on foot, in the September 2020 crash.  Ravnsborg ignored calls for his resignation from Governor Noem, some legislators, and law enforcement officials.

District 20’s legislators split – Lance Koth voted for impeachment, while Paul Miskimins voted against it.

Governor Kristi Noem’s office released a statement that said “today, the House of Representatives did the right thing for the people of South Dakota and for Joe Boever’s family.”
