MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) South Dakota leads the nation in hemp processing and fiber production. The state’s industrial hemp production grew in 2024. Farmers planted 39-hundred acres and harvested 13-point-six-million pounds, according to the USDA. The hemp is primarily used for fiber.
