PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Governor Larry Rhoden has declared September 19th as POW/MIA Recognition Day in South Dakota. The day honors the sacrifices of prisoners of war and those still missing in action. Veterans Affairs Secretary Jeremiah Schneider says the state remains committed to their recovery and recognition. South Dakota currently lists six missing from Vietnam, 33 from Korea, and 310 from World War II. Residents are encouraged to display the POW/MIA flag and take part in local observances.
