PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) A bill allowing enhanced permit holders to carry concealed weapons on public university campuses advanced Wednesday in the South Dakota Senate. The vote was 33 to 2. Todd Epp has the story. The measure requires permit holders to complete a background check and firearm training. It includes safety restrictions for areas with hazardous materials and MRI equipment. Republican Senator Mykala Voita (void-duh) of Bonesteel says the bill protects constitutional rights. Meanwhile, Democratic Senator Jamie Smith of Sioux Falls warns it could increase firearm deaths. The bill now moves to the House.
