MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW)  – Special Olympics South Dakota will host the 2025 State Basketball Tournament at Dakota Wesleyan University, Mitchell Middle School, and Mitchell High School from March 29-30.
We are excited to bring the State Basketball Tournament back to Mitchell, again. The tournament needs volunteers to be referees or to keep track of scores in the scorebook. “We are thrilled that the Mitchell community is welcoming us back again this year for State Basketball,” Darryl Nordquist, Special Olympics South Dakota President/CEO, said. “We are excited to showcase our athletes’ talents. If you’ve never been to a Special Olympics South Dakota event before, this event will be one to be a spectator. We welcome everyone!”
Highlights from the schedule:
• Saturday, March 29
o 8:30 AM – Opening Ceremony at the Corn Palace
o 10:00 AM – Basketball Tournament begins
• Sunday, March 30
o 8:00 AM – Tournament games continue
o 11:30 AM – Awards begin at three locations (DWU, Mitchell Middle School, Mitchell High School)
This event would not have been possible without the volunteers, coaches, and sponsors who support our athletes both on the court and off it. More than 150 volunteers will contribute their time and talents to help organize and make the tournament successful. Their vital support will help foster memories for years to come.
