All Kernel basketball teams will be on the road to face Sioux Falls Lincoln tonight. The subvarsity games for the boys will be at 3:30pm, 4:30pm, 5:30pm & 6:30pm in their auxiliary gym. Subvarsity for the girls will be at 3:30pm & 4:45pm in the main gym. Varsity girls will play at 6pm and the varsity boys play at 7:30pm, both in the main gym.
The Kernel wrestling teams will return to action tomorrow and be in Brookings once again. They’ll compete in a varsity tournament at Brookings high school with both teams beginning at 9am.
The Marlins hockey teams are in action tonight. The girls varsity will be on the road taking on Oahe in Fort Pierre, SD in the Oahe Expo Center at 6:15pm. The boys varsity will be home here in Mitchell taking on Sioux Falls-West at the Mitchell Activity Center in the Toshiba Rink beginning at 8pm.
The Kernel gymnastics team will have their conference meet tomorrow afternoon. Coming off their best team score of the season in their last meet, they’re more than ready to compete. The Eastern South Dakota Conference meet will be at Yankton high school and begin at Noon.
Dakota Wesleyan
The Tiger softball team will open the 2025 season tonight. They will be in Nebraska to play York (NE) at the Dordt Dome in Sioux Center, Iowa for their first game of the year with the first pitch at 6pm.
The Tiger baseball team opened their season yesterday afternoon in a doubleheader against the Valley City State Vikings at Drake Field. Not the start the Tigers wanted to their season as they dropped Game 1 by a score of 8-4 and Game 2 by a score of 9-4. Stats for the games include runs from shortstop Joseph Tharaldson (1), right fielder Caleb Meyers (4), center fielder Lane Darrow (1), second baseman Landon Ruesink (1) and outfielder Caleb Breuer (1) as a pinch runner. Tharaldson also tallied four RBI’s, Diego Jirau had two RBI’s while Shane Cowan and Ean Laird both had one RBI. The Tigers will return to action tomorrow for another doubleheader and they’ll face Dickinson State at Noon & 2pm at Drake Field in Mitchell.
The women’s wrestling team is set to hit the mats this morning at 9am. They’ll be on the road to wrestle in the Spire Classic at the Ryan Center in Leavenworth, KS.
NFL
The NFL had the first day of their Pro Bowl festivities yesterday under their new formats for events. The NFC leads the AFC, 14-7 after day one. They’ll continue with the second day of events on Sunday, February 2 in Orlando, FL.
NBA
Seven games in the NBA tonight with a pair available on National TV. You’ll have the Los Angeles Clippers at the Charlotte Hornets and the Dallas Mavericks at the Detroit Pistons at 6pm. At 6:30pm, you’ve got the Chicago Bulls at the Toronto Raptors and the Denver Nuggets at the Philadelphia 76ers on ESPN. Next is the Boston Celtics at the New Orleans Pelicans and the Milwaukee Bucks at the San Antonio Spurs at 7pm. The night will end with the Phoenix Suns at the Golden State Warriors on ESPN at 9pm.
