Mitchell Kernel Gymnastics team will compete on the second day of the State Tournament that began yesterday. The tournament will be played at the Watertown high school arena. (Time TBD).
For the girls wrestling teams, Mitchell’s Frankie Kranz had a strong day and finished second with 21.5 points in the 120lb class. Danny Borja managed to finish fourth in the 126lb class and earned ten points. Taylor DeJong placed second and earned 15 points in the 165lb class and Kaylynn Fick finished fourth with four points in the 235lb class.
Dakota Wesleyan
The Tiger basketball teams get back on the road for Great Plains Athletic Conference action tomorrow. They’ll head to Seward, NE for a matchup with Concordia. The No. 16 ranked women will tipoff at 2pm and the men will tipoff at 3:45pm.
The Tiger Indoor Track & Field teams will continue competing in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Championships hosted here in Mitchell at the DWU/Avera Sports & Wellness Complex. They will begin day two at 9am this morning.
The Tiger softball team returns to action today in Sioux Center, Iowa, for another weekend full of games. They’re playing in the ASBS Softball Classic #2 and start today against Valley City State at 11am, followed by Dickinson State at 1pm. Tomorrow they’ll face Dakota State at 3pm and York (NE) at 5pm.
South Dakota State
The Jackrabbit men’s basketball team played last night at home in Brookings. They were taking on the Omaha Mavericks and slid past the Mavs, 98-85. Next each team will face the University of South Dakota with the women playing Saturday at home and the men Sunday on the road.
NBA
The NBA will break from regular season games for a bit as All-Star weekend has arrived. The 2025 NBA All-Star Game, set for Feb. 16 and televised on TNT at 8 p.m. ET, will have a new format that features a tournament-style event consisting of four teams of eight players each. NBA commissioner Adam Silver announced on Feb. 10 that Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young and Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving would serve as injury replacements for Antetokounmpo and Davis, respectively. The All-Star Weekend is scheduled for Feb. 14-16, with the main event held at Chase Center, home of the Warriors. Other events will be held across the San Francisco Bay Area, including Oakland Arena.
