Mitchell

Kernel basketball teams will see game action again tonight against Pierre T.F. Riggs when they are split home and away for the final time in the regular season. The girls will be on the road with subvarsity games at 4pm & 5:30pm and varsity will start at 7pm. The boys will have the same start times for subvarsity and varsity games, but they’ll be home in the World’s Only Corn Palace.

Kernel girls wrestling had Regional Tournament competition yesterday on the road. In the 100lb class, McKyla Linke placed sixth and scored 5.5 points, while Allyson Tilberg competed in the 107lb class and ended with 9.5 points and finished fifth. Frankie Kranz had another strong meet and placed first in the 120lb class and scored 27.5 points, followed by Danny Borja in the 126lb class who placed fourth and got 14 points. Rounding it out were three third place spots for Mitchell. Featuring Liliana Luque in the 132lb class scoring 18 points, Taylor DeJong in the 165lb class scoring 14 points and Kaylynn Fick in the 235lb class scoring nine points. It’s the boys wrestling teams turn now for Regional Tournament competition. The boys will compete at Cheyenne-Eagle Butte high school against various schools beginning tomorrow at 10am.

Both Mitchell Marlins varsity hockey teams will be competing on the road tonight. The girls will be taking on Sioux Center at the All Seasons Center in Sioux Center, IA at 6pm. The boys will travel to face Brookings in the Larson Ice Center at 8pm.

Dakota Wesleyan

The Tiger baseball team will make their return to action after a few weeks off. Starting tomorrow they’ll have a four-game slate in Kansas City, KS this weekend. Tomorrow they’ll play William Penn (IA) at 11:30am on Field 6 and then MidAmerica Nazarene at 2:30pm on Field 5. Sunday they’ll take on Baker (KS) at 11am on Field 3 and Clarke (IA) at 1:30pm on Field 4.

It’s GPAC Tournament time for Tiger men’s wrestling this weekend. Today, DWU will compete in Hastings, NE at Lynn Farrell Arena at 2pm. Then tomorrow they’ll get back to it at 10am again at Lynn Farrell Arena.

The Tigers basketball teams will have their final regular season game tomorrow when they host the Dordt Defenders in the World’s Only Corn Palace. It’ll be a Top 20 NAIA ranked matchup between your No. 16 ranked Tiger women to get things started against the No. 1 ranked Defenders beginning at 2pm and then the Tiger men will face the No. 7 ranked Defender men at 3:45pm.

South Dakota State

The Jackrabbit women’s basketball team will play next when they visit Kansas City, MO to take on Kansas City at 2pm tomorrow. The men will also face Kansas City, but on Sunday in Brookings at the First Bank & Trust Arena for their Senior Day at 1pm.

NBA

The NBA has some staggering injury news, and a suspension dealt out. It was announced yesterday morning that San Antonio Spurs superstar, Victor Wembanyama, is expected to miss the remainder of the season with deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder. Wembanyama will now be ineligible for the Defensive Player of the Year award as well due to the 65-game limit in the NBA. Additionally, Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis has been suspended 25 games for violating the league’s anti-drug policy. For game news, the Minnesota Timberwolves will be one of two games on National TV tonight as they travel to face the Houston Rockets at 8:30pm on ESPN.
