Mitchell

The Mitchell Kernel boys reached the Class AA State Championship game for the third straight season over the weekend. No. 4 seed Mitchell matched up with the No. 2 seed Brandon Valley at Summit Arena at the Monument. A rematch of last year’s championship game was as intense as expected, but it was the Lynx who came out on top this time around. Winning it by a score 53-45. The Kernels were led by Gavin Hinker who had 15 points, followed by Markus Talley who added 13. Mitchell finishes as the State Runner-Up and in second place in Class AA for 2025.

Dakota Wesleyan

Tiger softball had a pair of games against Concordia (NE) this weekend at home in Mitchell. They managed to take Game 1, 3-2 and dropped Game 2, 10-8. The Tigers now sit at 24-7 overall and 5-1 in Great Plains Athletic Conference. They will return to action on Wednesday.

The Tiger baseball team were busy on the road yesterday afternoon in Freemont, NE where they played Midland in a doubleheader. DWU managed to take Game 1, 7-3 but fell just short in Game 2, 14-13. They now sit at 6-19 overall and 5-3 in GPAC games. The Tigers won’t play again until Saturday.

March Madness

The first two rounds of the men’s NCAA Tournament are complete and ZERO perfect brackets remain. The Sweet Sixteen is set and features Auburn, Michigan, Ole Miss, Michigan State, Florida, Maryland, Texas Tech, Arkansas, Duke, Arizona, BYU, Alabama, Houston, Purdue, Kentuckey and Tennessee. Action will resume on Thursday. The women’s tournament will resume today to complete the Round of 32 and finalize their Sweet Sixteen. Teams already bound for the Sweet Sixteen include UCLA, Ole Miss, Kansas State, South Carolina, Duke, Tennessee, Notre Dame and TCU.

South Dakota State

The Jackrabbit women’s basketball team took their opening Round of 64 game on Saturday when they defeated No. 7 Oklahoma State, 74-68. SDSU will now be taking on the No. 2 UConn Huskies tonight at 7pm in Storrs, Connecticut at Gampel Pavilion on ESPN for a chance at the Sweet Sixteen. The Jackrabbits are riding a 20-game winning streak and have yet to lose in 2025 and must get past Paige Bueckers and the Huskies to continue their season.

NBA

The Minnesota Timberwolves will see game action today when they travel to play the Indiana Pacers at 6pm on NBA League Pass. Other games include a pair of National TV games on NBATV. It’ll be the Los Angeles Lakers at the Orlando Magic at 6pm and the Milwaukee Bucks at the Phoenix Suns at 9pm.
