The Mitchell varsity track & field team will get back to competition again tomorrow afternoon. They will remain here in Mitchell and compete at Dakota Wesleyan University for a Varsity Invitational beginning at Noon.
Dakota Wesleyan
The men’s track & field team competed Friday at Wayne State College in Wayne, NE just as the women did. Bart Nielsen competed in multiple events and had a personal record time of 15.73 seconds in the 110m hurdles. Ian Chrisler PR’d in the 200m dash and posted 23.26 seconds. Quenton Walls had a nice day qualifying for Finals in both long and triple jump. Where he placed second in triple and seventh in long jump. A’Johntez Moore placed fourth in the long jump and had an all-time collegiate PR with a 6.51m jump. Cole Holden competed in javelin and placed second at the meet, with his 51.63m throw making him No. 23 in the NAIA. While Max Raab also did javelin, he ended up finishing fourth. Ethan Watson was involved in a trio of throwing events, where he placed third in shot, threw a PR of 37.69m in discus and competed in hammer.
The Tiger golf teams each compete in the Briar Cliff Match Play over the weekend. For the women, Allison Meyerink earned three out of three points and so did Ashton Austreim. Sara Sudenga earned 2.5 of three points in her matchup, as did Kaylee Johnson. Dakota Larson dropped her match but got a point out of the possible three. The women’s team finished first overall in the tournament. The men’s Dakota Munder earned 1.5 out of three points in his matchup. The rest of the Tigers including Connor Calahan, Peyton Bettcher, Andrew Norberg and Jackson Childs all managed just one point out of three possible. The men finished in seventh place. Men’s golf returns to action today and tomorrow as they compete in the Hardrocker Invitational in Rapid City, SD both days beginning at 9am.
March Madness
The men’s NCAA tournament has wrapped up all their Elite Eight games and their Final Four is set. For the first time since 2008, all the Final Four teams are the top seeded teams. Auburn, Florida, Duke and Houston make up the final teams that will begin play April 5. The women will conclude Elite Eight action tonight and the winners of No. 1 Texas vs No. 2 TCU and No. 1 USC vs No. 2 UConn will join No. 1 UCLA & No. 1 South Carolina in the Final Four.
MLB
The Minnesota Twins have begun this season just as they ended last season, in disappointing fashion. They again lost to the St. Louis Cardinals yesterday afternoon by a score of 9-2. They were outscored 19-6 in the series. Today, they will face the Chicago White Sox in Chicago at 1:10pm.
NBA
The Minnesota Timberwolves faced the Detroit Pistons yesterday and a team scuffle broke out in the second quarter of the game. Tempers flared after Detroit fouled Timberwolves forward Naz Reid. Five players — including Reid and teammate Donte DiVincenzo — were ejected, along with Detroit head coach J.B. Bickerstaff and Minnesota assistant Pablo Prigioni. Minnesota did end up winning the game though, 123-104. Julius Randle led with 26 points, while Rudy Gobert had 19 points and 25 rebounds. Next, the Timberwolves will play at Denver tomorrow.
