The Kernel baseball team returns to the field today. They will face the O’Gorman Knights in a doubleheader tomorrow at home in Mitchell.
The varsity boys tennis team will have a Varsity Triangular today. They will be at Sioux Falls Washington at Noon on the road facing multiple schools.
The Kernel softball teams will see action today. Each team will face Brookings at home. Varsity will play first at 4pm and JV at 6pm. **Correction** these games have now been postponed to Friday, May 16 due to weather.
Dakota Wesleyan
The Tiger baseball team is slotted as the eight seed going into the Great Plains Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament that will begin April 30 and go through May 5. They will face the No. 1 seed Concordia Bulldogs, who will be one of the host sites, at their field at 6pm on Wednesday.
The Tiger softball team will be the No. 4 seed in the GPAC softball tournament that will begin April 30 and go through May 3. They will face the No. 5 seed Concordia Bulldogs at Northwestern University and start at 2pm on Wednesday.
The Tiger women’s golf team gets rolling with GPAC Championship play this morning in Cairo, NE. They will play at Centura Hills today at 8:30am and continue day two tomorrow.
MLB
The Minnesota Twins got their first sweep of the season in a series will the Los Angeles Angels after a win yesterday by a score of 5-0. They’ve won five of their last six games and sit at 12-16 overall. They’ll start a new series and play the Cleveland Guardians tonight at 5:10pm.
NFL
The Minnesota Vikings had a limited number of picks in this year’s NFL draft but made the most of their selections. They took offensive lineman Donovan Johnson from Ohio State with the 24th overall pick. Followed by third round selection at No. 102 overall, wide receiver Tai Felton from Maryland. As well as fifth round draftee at No. 139 overall, edge rusher Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins. They traded the 172nd overall pick to the Los Angeles Rams for the 201st and 202nd picks. In the sixth round, at No. 201, they drafted linebacker Kobe King. At No. 202, they selected tight end Gavin Bartholomew to round out their draft.
NBA
The NBA playoffs continued rolling on yesterday with four Game 4’s. You had the No. 6 seed Minnesota Timberwolves take a 3-1 series lead over the No. 3 seed Los Angeles Lakers with a 116-113 win. Then it was the No. 3 seed New York Knicks escaping the No. 6 seed Detroit Pistons by a score of 94-93 and taking a 3-1 series lead as well. Next was the No. 2 seed Boston Celtics taking down the No. 7 seed Orlando Magic, 107-98 and also taking a 3-1 series lead. Then the night ended with a win by the No. 4 seed Indiana Pacers over the No. 5 seed Milwaukee Bucks by a score of 129-103 and taking a 3-1 lead themselves.
