The Kernel basketball teams both faced Sioux Falls Roosevelt last night. It was comeback victories for both of your Kernel teams. The girls trailed 27-21 at halftime, but their 28-14 second half powered them to a 49-41 road win. Addie Siemsen led them in scoring with 12 points and Londyn Hajek added 10. The boys were in a back-and-forth battle throughout the first half and trailed at halftime as well, 20-19. Their third quarter is what brought them to life as they won it 15-2. They ended up winning the game 42-38. Markus Talley led with 12 points for Mitchell, Landen Soulek had a season-high 11 points and Colton Smith added an 11-point & 14-rebound double-double. Next, each team will be on the road Friday to face Sioux Falls Lincoln.
Tomorrow, both the boys and girls wrestling teams will be in competition. They will both be in Brookings, but the boys will be in a varsity triangular, and the girls will be in a varsity dual. The boys will face Brookings and Sioux Falls Jefferson beginning at 5pm. The girls will only face Brookings and begin at 7pm.
Dakota Wesleyan
The Tiger softball team is almost ready to get their season started. They will open the 2025 season this Friday. They will head to York, NE for their first game of the year with the first pitch at 6pm.
Tiger baseball will host their home opener tomorrow afternoon. DWU will be facing the Valley City State Vikings in a doubleheader. The games will start at Noon & 2pm.
WNBA
Another trade went down in the WNBA yesterday afternoon, as well as a big free agent signing. The trade was between the Phoenix Mercury and the Connecticut Sun. The Mercury acquired All-Star forward Alyssa Thomas, as well as guard Ty Harris. The Sun received guard Natasha Cloud, forward Rebecca Allen and the No. 12 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA draft. The free agent signing was All-Star center Brittney Griner agreeing to a one-year deal with the Atlanta Dream.
NBA
The NBA has a large 11-game slate tonight with just two on National TV. It starts with three games at 6pm as the Brooklyn Nets are at the Charlotte Hornets, Detroit Pistons visit the Indiana Pacers, and the Toronto Raptors are at the Washington Wizards. Four games at 6:30pm with the Chicago Bulls at the Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers at the Miami Heat, Sacramento Kings at the Philadelphia 76ers and the Denver Nuggets travel to play the New York Knicks on ESPN. At 7pm you’ll have the Dallas Mavericks at the New Orleans Pelicans and the Los Angeles Clippers at the San Antonio Spurs. One lone 8pm game featuring the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Phoenix Suns and the night ends with the Oklahoma City Thunder at the Golden State Warriors at 9pm on ESPN.
