Mitchell Basketball
The (RV) Kernel boys basketball team opened up their home game play in the Mitchell high school with an overtime thriller against Harrisburg. It was a game that started as if it were Mitchell’s worst but ended up one of their best. Harrisburg railed off 11 first half threes and led Mitchell by 12 at halftime, but a strong surge in the fourth quarter, winning it 21-10, forced the game into OT with a late basket inside by Owen Schelske. Mitchell had a two-point deficit with seconds left in OT and Owen Raml brought it all the way up the court and stepped into a shot and nailed it at the buzzer to get Mitchell the 69-68 win in overtime. Along with Raml, big baskets from Carter McCormick late in the game helped reenergize Mitchell. They improved to 3-2 overall. It’ marks the first win over Harrisburg in 1,752 days and first for head coach Ryker Kreutzfeldt.
