MITCHELL S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) On May 22nd, 2024, at approximately 1900 hours, Mitchell Police Officers were dispatched to the Hitchcock Park basketball courts (located at 1201 E Hanson Ave) for a report of a male that had been stabbed in the chest. When Officers arrived on the scene, they quickly identified the victim and suspect. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. Witnesses on the scene advised that the altercation between the victim and suspect occurred due to an argument that occurred during a game of basketball.
The male victim of the stabbing was identified as 25-year-old KYLE FOOTE. FOOTE received medical attention from Mitchell EMS on the scene and shortly after was transported to Avera Queen of Peace for non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect in this case was a juvenile. The juvenile was detained in accordance with the South Dakota Juvenile Department of Corrections (JDC) and is being held in JDC custody.
The Mitchell Police Department is thankful that there was no loss of life during this incident. Assisting the Mitchell Police Department with responding to this call was the South Dakota Highway Patrol and Davison County Sheriff’s Office.
