The State B Baseball Tournament sees area teams making their mark as Pony Hills League and Sunshine League team’s advance. The first game on Friday morning at Cadwell Park turned out to be with a great game with the Alexandria Angels winning by the final of 5 to 3. The Alexandria Angels starter Riley McSherry pitched a complete game, striking out seven batters, allowing six hits, two earned runs and six walks on 143 pitches.

The Alexandria Angels broke through in the sixth inning. The Angels loaded the bases, and with one out and Cole Wenande smacked a bases-clearing double into deep right field. The Cardinals scored two runs in the seventh, including a Chris Burke RBI single to left field. Flandreau evened the score in the eighth inning. After Tim Huber was intentionally walked to put runners on first and second, Rick Weber roped an RBI single to left field for a 3-3 tie. Alexandria will play Platte or the Dell Rapids Mudcats at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the second round.

That set the stage for the Alexandria Angels in the ninth. After Tucker Kingsbury was hit by a pitch, Jerrod Zens moved him over on a sacrifice bunt. After Cole Wenande was intentionally walked, the Angels Tyson Gau broke the tie with his two-run double. The Alexandria will play the Platte Killer Tomatoes at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the second round.

Monday night is our KOOL 98.3 FM Amateur Baseball game of the week as we will be at Cadwell Park for the second-round state tournament game featuring the Platte Killer Tomatoes vs the #1 Alexandria Angels at 7:30 pm. The second game of the day was a pitcher’s duel between the Platte Killer Tomatoes Grant Doom who was facing one of the top pitchers in the state in the Del Rapids Mudcats Kris Regas. The Platte Killers Tomatoes would win a squeaker scoring late in the 8th inning winning by the final of 1 to nothing. Kris Regas and Grant Doom had a combined 31 strikeouts in complete game battle and allowed only one run and a combined six hits. Platte advances to the second round in a rematch of their 10 to 8 District 5B semifinal victory with the Alexandria Angels on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Friday nights action at the 92 annual State B Tournament Amateur Baseball games included the third game of the day as you had the defending championship rematch featuring the Champs the Canova Gang vs the Lesterville Broncs and this game was all Canova Gang winning by the final of 11 to nothing. Not only was it a rematch between the two teams, but it was a rematch of pitchers as well, with Canova’s Trey Krier against Lesterville’s Alex Wagner.

Trey Krier tossed just two strikeouts but with the help of the defense behind him, was efficient in his seven-inning outing, throwing 56 strikes in 67 pitches. Justin Miller powered the Canova offense as Miller drove in five runs on three hits and had two walks, including a double and homer. Cole Gassman tallied two hits, a walk, and two RBIs. Riley Genzlinger and Tim Gassman each drove in a run on two hits, while Derek Miller drove in a run on a double in the win. Canova moves on to the second round of the State B amateur baseball tournament, and it will face the Northville vs. Kimball/White Lake winner on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

The fourth and final game of the day on Friday at the 92 annual State B Tournament Amateur Baseball games included the 3B District tournament winner from the Pony Hills League the Kimble White Lake Nationals vs the Northville Merchants and this game was all Kimble White Lake Nationals as they jumped out to an early lead and never looked back winning by the final of 7 to 1. Caden Lenz powered the Kimble White Lake Nationals offense going 1 for 3 at the plate and scoring a run and driving in two runs. The Nationals Mitchell Price was stellar on the mound tossing a complete game three hitter only allowing one run while striking out 10. The Kimball/White Lake now face the defending champs the Canova Gang on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
