MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The Mitchell Board of Education will be talking about the district’s new instructional literacy coaches at their meeting this evening. The meeting is at 5:30 p.m. today at the Mitchell Career and Technical Education Academy. Superintendent Joe Childs mentioned during Thursday’s State of the Schools presentation that the three new literacy coaches are working to boost reading skills across all grade levels. They spend part of their time helping teachers with professional development and the other part providing direct instruction to students, with a big focus on phonics as part of both a state and district initiative. The meeting is for information only, so no decisions will be made, and it’s open to the public. If you can’t make it in person, the Mitchell Republic will be livestreaming the meeting.
