PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The South Dakota House rejected a bill on Tuesday that would require schools to display the state motto, while delaying action on two other measures. The motto bill failed 30 to 38. It would have required public schools to show “Under God the People Rule” or the state seal in classrooms. Representatives used Joint Rule 5-17 to halt debate on proposed changes to right-to-work penalties and voter residency requirements. I’m Todd Epp reporting. Both bills are still pending.
