Mitchell
The Mitchell Marlins girls varsity hockey team will get back to the ice soon, as well as the boys. They girls will play tomorrow against Rushmore for a three-game weekend here in Mitchell at the Mitchell Activity Center in the Toshiba Rink. Tomorrow’s game will begin at 8pm. The boys will head to Morehead, MN for a tournament over the next couple of days as well.
The Kernel boys and girls wrestling teams remain off for break but return to action Monday, Dec. 30. Each team will compete against the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles at Central High School beginning at 2:30pm.
The boys and girls basketball teams will both compete in the Hoop City Classic. The boys team will raise their banner for their Class AA state championship from last season. The girls won’t return to the court in the Hoop City Classic until Monday on the final day of the Classic when they face Sisseton at 6pm. The boys will start on Saturday at 7:30pm against Orono (MN) and pick back up Monday following the girls game and take on Orlando Christian Prep (FL) at 7:30pm.

Your Tigers basketball teams begin preparations post-Christmas to get set for their game on Sunday afternoon. The women will be on the road and the men will be home. Your No. 17 ranked women’s basketball team will have their final exhibition of the season and face North Dakota State in Fargo, ND at 1pm. The men will remain home and take on the Jamestown Jimmies in the World’s Only Corn Palace with tipoff at 3pm in Mitchell.

Christmas Day games in the NBA did not disappoint yesterday. It started with the San Antonio Spurs visiting the New York Knicks and the Knicks spoiling the Christmas debut for Victor Wembanyama, who scored 42 points. The Knicks won, 117-114. Then it was the Minnesota Timberwolves on the road against the Dallas Mavericks. Dallas mounted a nice late game comeback but fell short without Luka Doncic who got injured in the second quarter. Kyrie Irving’s 39 points wasn’t enough, and Minnesota won 105-99. In the afternoon, the Philadelphia 76ers traveled to face the Boston Celtics. They upset the defending champs on their court, 118-114. Adding to the fun was the matchup of the Los Angeles Lakers at the Golden State Warriors. Clutch baskets from Steph Curry cut it close late in the game, but LeBron’s 31 points and Austin Reaves triple-double propelled LA to a 115-113 win. The day ended with the Denver Nuggets at the Phoenix Suns. Coming out on top was the Phoenix Suns, 110-100.

Today is Thursday Night Football in the NFL. For tonight, it’ll be the Seattle Seahawks on the road facing the Chicago Bears. It will get rolling at 7:15pm on Prime Video.
