PIERRE S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The first of its kind law enforcement training offered by South Dakota to tribal officers will start next month.
Attorney General Marty Jackley says Tribal officers will make up about half of the class, with 13 Tribal officers participating and 11 other officers representing state and local law enforcement agencies comprising the rest of the training group. The lack of a nearby training location has hurt officer recruiting efforts on the state’s reservations.
The Attorney General and Governor’s offices offered the training to help tribes hire and train the officers they need.
