The Mitchell 16u Teener baseball team was in Sioux Falls on Saturday competing in the final three games of a four-game baseball tournament. The Mitchell 16u teener baseball team on Friday in 1st game in Sioux Falls was facing a familiar foe in the Aberdeen Smittys. The Mitchell 16u teener baseball team swept a doubleheader vs the Smittys winning 4 to 1 and 4 to 3. The Mitchell 16u teener baseball team stormed out of the gates scoring 7 runs in the top of the first thanks to Jaxson Hartman’s two RBI single scoring two runs. Mitchell’s Kendan Skinner then followed suit with a two RBI Double. The Mitchell 16u teener baseball team would score two more runs to close out the Aberdeen Smitty’s by the final of 9 to 7. Gavin Jones picked up the win for the Mitchell 16u teener baseball team going 41/3 innings allowing five runs on five hits while fanning five.
The Mitchell 16u teeners were facing two opponents they had not previously met in the 2024 regular season. The first game of the day was against the Hamel 16u VFW baseball team. The Hamel 16u baseball team had a great start to the game as they jumped out to a five to nothing lead after three innings. Mitchells bats were held silent as Hamel’s Matthew Clements did not allow a hit to open the game. The Hamel 16u VFW baseball team would add to their lead scoring six more runs in the final two frames to win this game by the final of 11-0 in 5 innings. The Mitchell 16u teeners lone hit in the game would come off the bat of Mitchell’s Kaiden Allen. The second game of the day did not go the way the Mitchell 16u Teeners baseball team had planned as Pius x JV baseball team scored four runs in the top of the first to open the game. They would add to their lead late scoring 5 runs to win the game by the final of 9 to 1. The Mitchell 16u baseball teams were stymied by the Pius x JV’S starting pitcher Caleb Davis who kept the teeners bats off balance all day and would only allow one hit in five and a third innings giving up one run in the Pius XJV’s 9 to 1 win. Mitchell’s Brayden Reindl had the lone hit for the Mitchell 16u Teener baseball team that is now 17-5 on the season. The Mitchell 16u teener baseball team finished the four-game tournament on Saturday vs another opponent in the Northrop Giants 15 AAA team.
Northrop built a 4 to on lead heading into the top of the 6th but then The Mitchell 16u teener baseball team rallied to score three runs to tie the game at four. The Mitchell 16u teeners Brennen Penne with the bases loaded cleared them with a 3 run scoring single. Northrop’s Luke Haefner doubled home the winning run in the bottom of the sixth to walk it off and win by the final of 5 to 4. The Mitchell 16u teener baseball team finished with the tournament with a 1-3 record in Sioux Falls and is now 17-6 on the season. The Mitchell 16u Teeners baseball team hits the road and heads to Huron to battle the Huron 16u baseball team tonight starting at 5 pm.
The SDGA | Sanford Golf Series is a series of events for older junior golfers who are looking to make an impact on their high school teams and to prepare them to play golf at the collegiate level. High school players (class of 2024, 2025, and 2026 have priority). Several area Mitchell boys’ and girls’ golfers are competing in the series that is being played at eight different golf courses which leads up to the SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP (Top point leaders from other events qualify – 27 boys / 15 girls) Monday, July 22 – Minnehaha CC (Sioux Falls). Here are the Mitchell golfers scores in both the boys and girl’s divisions. Dakota Munger T-12 83, Everett Morrison T-18 85, Asher Dannenbring T-20 86, Carter Mc Cormick 38th 93. Girls Allison Meyerink 3rd 84, Maddie Childs T-4 85, Mia Larson 13th 98. The Sanford Golf Series resumes next Monday, July 8 – Hillsview GC (Pierre).
The Second Annual Tigers Softball Classic will be taking place on Saturday July 20th and will continue Sunday July 21st. The Tiger Classic is open to girls age 12u to 18u and the cost is $550 per team or $110 per individual. The Tiger Classic will be held at the Cadwell Sports Complex and the deadline to register and submit your entry fee for the Tiger Classic is July 15th. The Tiger Classic will be run by DWU Coaches and players, and College Coaches will be in attendance. Each team will guaranteed five games and a game bracket will be posted on Thursday night July 18th prior to the tournament.
