Even though the district tournaments are heating up in South Dakota amateur baseball the key is to get hot at the right time. And if that’s the case the Mount Vernon Mustangs are heating up at the right time. The Mustangs Cameron Deinert had a hit and scored a run as Mount Vernon defeated Parkston Devil Rays in Sunshine League action on Monday by the final of 12 to 6. Cameron Deinert batted 1-for-5 with a walk for the Mustangs. Walker Hultgren collected an RBI and two hits, Eric Giblin with 3 for 5 at the plate and drove in 3 runs on a solo homer, Chase Hetland and Deric Denning each tallied two hits. Bradley Dean tallied a double in the win as well.
Deric Denning took the victory on the mound for the Mount Vernon Mustangs allowing six runs on ten hits and gave up five walks while striking out five batters in eight innings pitched with 130 pitches thrown. For Parkston, Jake Helleloid took the loss in four innings, issuing eight runs on seven hits and four walks, striking out three.

The Mitchell High School Wrestling Camp is on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday August 5th, 6th and 7th. The Mitchell Youth Wrestling Camp will offer wrestling instructions to students in grades Kindergarten-6th grade. Campers can expect to participate in fundamental wrestling drills, learn wrestling techniques, and play wrestling specific games. The Mitchell High School Wrestling Camp is for both boys and girls and the cost is $54 and the start times are the same on all days. Session 1 is for k-2nd grades and starts at 3:00pm and ends at 4:45pm. Session 2 is for 3rd-6th starts at 5:00pm and ends at 6:45pm. Mitchell High School Wrestling Camp is at MHS Wrestling Room or Main Gym Campers should bring a T-shirt, shorts, a water bottle, and wrestling shoes (campers can participate in socks also) Instructors: Jagger Tyler, Lane Miller, and Baker Haar. Please be aware the MHS Wrestling Room and Main Gym is NOT air-conditioned. Please make sure you bring a water bottle to stay hydrated during camp. The DWU Men’s youth boys individual Basketball Camps is on Tuesday and Wednesday July 30th and 31st and are for youth boys’ basketball players who will learn basic to advanced technique that feature progressive drills that will improve an individual’s game so they will be more skilled at basketball. The camp instructors are the DWU Men’s basketball coaches and players. The youth boys’ basketball camps are designed for instruction and coaching and will be given in small groups to help campers master the skills that are covered. There be a focus on basketball fundamentals and competitions throughout the day. The DWU boys’ basketball camps are for boys in kindergarten through 8th grade. The check-in time is at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday’s schedule is 1:00pm to 3:00pm. The DWU boys’ youth basketball camp is $40 for k-4th per camper and $50 for 5th-8th. The overall SDGA Adult-Junior Champions are Jayce and Riley Pugh of Miller, who fired a 74 to win by one over the teams of Trystan and Steve Eide (Mount Vernon), and Sawyer and Taylor Sonnenschein (Pierre). There were winners in each age division and gender Junior – 9 Hole Divisions The 9 and Under Champions are Allyson Sinksen of Sioux Falls and Kipton Kopp of Sturgis. The 10-11 Champions are Adley Thompson and Lincoln Trasamar of Sioux Falls.
