The Baseball Tournament had a great 6th day last night at Cadwell Park with a great game right out of the gates. The Hartford Humbolt Wood Ducks were victorious over the Colt 45’s winning by the final of 8 to 5. After a first-round loss in the district tournament to the Flandreau Cardinals, the Wood Ducks have won four consecutive games, with wins over the Madison Dairy Queen Broncos, Colman A’s, Menno Mad Frogs, and on Monday, the Elk Point Colt 45s to advance to Thursday’s quarterfinals.
The night cap featured our KOOL 98.3 FM Amateur Baseball game of the week as we had the second-round state tournament game featuring the Platte Killer Tomatoes vs the Alexandria Angels and what a great game it turned out to be.
The Platte Killer Tomtoes Sheldon Gant added three hits and a walk, including a double for Platte. Michael Buitenbos tallied two hits along with an RBI, Jeff Harris (Parkston Mudcats pick-up player) drove in a run on two hits, while Richard Sternberg tallied a hit in the win. For Alexandria, Tyson Gau allowed two runs on eight hits and four walks in eight innings pitched, striking out seven. Jerrod Zens, Tyson Gau, Michael Schoettmer, Pierce Smith, Peyton Smith, and Jacob Giles each had a hit in the loss for the Angels. The Platte Killer Tomatoes will have a quick turnaround for its semifinal matchup with the Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Tonight’s action at Cadwell Park features the Pony Hills League winner the Kimble White Lake Nationals vs the defending champion Canova Gang at 5:30 to be followed by the Del Rapids PBR vs the Millbank Firechiefs starting at 7:30 p.m.
The best men’s and women’s golfers in South Dakota were in Rapid City this past weekend at beautiful Meadowbrook Golf Course for the 2024 SDGA Amateur Championship as Kevin Gillick of Rapid City is the Men’s Champion and Reese Jansa of Sioux Falls is the Women’s Championship. It is the first SDGA Championship for Kevin and the 11th for Reese Jansa.
Mitchell’s Allison Meyerinks finished third at +14 for the Championship and Mitchell’ Maddie Childs finished 6th and DWU womens golfer Ashton Austreim finished 11th.
The DWU men’s Elite Basketball Camp is on Saturday August 17TH and are for boys’ basketball players who will learn basic to advanced technique that feature progressive drills that will improve an individual’s game so they will be more skilled at the high school level. The camp instructors are the DWU men’s basketball coaches and players. The boys’ basketball camps are designed for instruction and coaching in and will be given in small groups to help campers master the skills that are covered. The DWU boys’ basketball camps are for boys entering the 9th grade through 12th grade. Check-in time is at 9:30 a.m. Saturday’s schedule is 10 a.m.-2:00 p.m. The DWU boys’ elite basketball camp is $40 per camper. The DWU basketball camps are being taught at the Avera Sports Complex. The fourth and final game of the day on Friday at the 92 annual State B Tournament Amateur Baseball games included the 3B District tournament winner from the Pony Hills League the Kimble White Lake Nationals vs the Northville Merchants and this game was all Kimble White Lake Nationals as they jumped out to an early lead and never looked back winning by the final of 7 to 1. Caden Lenz powered the Kimble White Lake Nationals offense going 1 for 3 at the plate and scoring a run and driving in two runs. The Nationals Mitchell Price was stellar on the mound tossing a complete game three hitter only allowing one run while striking out 10. The Kimball/White Lake now face the defending champs the Canova Gang on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
