The Mitchell Marlins girls varsity hockey team will get back to the ice after Christmas. They’ll play this Friday against Rushmore for a three-game weekend.

The Kernel boys and girls wrestling teams will be off for Christmas break but return to action Dec. 30. Each team will compete against the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles at Central High School beginning at 2:30pm.

The boys and girls basketball teams both will compete in the Hoop City Classic where the boys will raise their banner for their Class AA state championship from last season. The girls won’t play til Monday on the final day of the Classic when they face Sisseton at 6pm. The boys will start on Saturday at 7pm against Orono (MN) and pick back up Monday following the girls game and take on Orlando Christian Prep (FL) at 7:30pm.

Dakota Wesleyan

DWU’s Sam Aslesen has been named the Men’s Great Plains Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Week. Aslesen led the Tigers to a 2-0 record this past week in Arizona averaging 23.5 points, eight rebounds, two and a half assists and shot 61% from the field. Your Tigers basketball teams will get a well-deserved break and then both see a game on Sunday afternoon. The No. 17 ranked women’s basketball team will have their final exhibition and face North Dakota State in Fargo, ND at 1pm. The men will remain home and take on the Jamestown Jimmies in the World’s Only Corn Palace with tipoff at 3pm in Mitchell.

NBA

Christmas Day games are around the corner in the NBA and are filled with star-studded matchups. The day will start with the San Antonio Spurs at the New York Knicks at 11am, followed by your Minnesota Timberwolves at the Dallas Mavericks at 1:30pm and the Philadelphia 76ers at the Boston Celtics at 4pm. Then rounding out the night, it’s the Los Angeles Lakers at the Golden State Warriors at 7pm and ending with the Denver Nuggets at the Phoenix Suns at 9:30pm.

NFL

The NFL will see Christmas Day action as well with both games aired on Netflix. It will feature the Kansas City Chiefs at the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, PA at Noon. Then it’ll be the Baltimore Ravens at the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium in Houston, TX beginning at 3:30pm.
