The Kernel boys and girls wrestling teams saw action yesterday afternoon in Aberdeen. It was a tough day for the Kernels. Only one athlete was able to get a fall against the Golden Eagles and it was on the girls side. In the 165lb class, Taylor DeJong scored a fall over Lilly Nelson from Aberdeen Central. In the 107lb class, MyKyla Linke earned points due to forfeit. The Golden Eagles won the competition over the girls 53-12 and over the boys, 72-0.
The Kernel basketball teams ended the year on a high note with a pair of wins. For the girls, they struggled early but rallied in the third on the back of Londyn Hajek who had 11 of her team-high 17 points in the third quarter. Her efforts, among other contributions, powered her team to a 53-48 win over Sisseton. They win their fourth in a row and improve to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in Class AA. The boys had a bit of a slow start as well but were steadied all night by Colton Smith. He had a near first half double-double and scored 13 of his game-high 24 points in the third quarter. He finished with 24 points and 16 rebounds, and the Kernels defeated Orlando Christian Prep, 50-41. They improve to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in Class AA.

Last night the San Franciso 49ers put up more of a fight against the Detroit Lions than one might expect on Monday Night Football. Brock Purdy threw for nearly 400 yards, but the 49ers were still unable to get past the Lions in the end. Detroit came out on top, 40-34.
