PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Two Government Accountability bills proposed by Attorney General Marty Jackley were approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday. Senate Bill 62 mandates reporting of crimes, misconduct, and conflicts of interest, with penalties for non-compliance. Senate Bill 63, which passed unanimously, provides protections for state employees who report such issues. Jackley emphasized that these bills aim to address illegal activities within state government and protect employees who report misconduct, in an effort to strengthen public trust and protect taxpayer money. Both bills now move to the Senate floor. In addition, two other bills from Jackley have passed the Senate and are now waiting for hearings in the House.
