A two-vehicle accident in Aurora County over the weekend left two people injured.
The crash happened on Friday evening at around 6:45 PM. A 2016 Ram 1500 Sport pickup driven by 34-year old Jordan Geveshausen of Mount Vernon was eastbound on U.S. Highway 16 four miles west of Plankinton, missed a turn at 393rd Avenue, and braked suddenly. A 2008 GMC Sierra pickup driven by 24-year old Duane Fischer of Alexandria rear-ended the Ram pickup.
Fischer was taken to Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell with serious non-life threatening injuries and was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital. Geveshausen suffered minor injuries and was taken to Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt, and charges are pending against both drivers.
A portion of Highway 16 was closed for about 5 hours on Saturday night as a result of the accident.
