A two-vehicle head-on crash shut down a portion of I-90 Thursday afternoon for just over an hour. The crash happened at around 3:15 at mile marker 368, four miles north of Canistota where traffic is reduced to two lanes due to construction.

62-year old Arder Wilkins of Kansas City was driving a Ford Explorer eastbound. He lost control, went into the westbound lane, and collided with a Dodge Ram pickup. The pickup partially blocked the westbound lanes, while the Explorer ended up in the median. Wilkins suffered minor injuries and was taken to a Sioux Falls hospital. A 61-year old female passenger also suffered minor injuries.

The 39-year old male driver of the pickup, who was not identified, was also taken to a Sioux Falls hospital with minor injuries. A 48-year old male passenger in the pickup also suffered minor injuries.

Traffic was rerouted to Highway 38 until the interstate opened at around 4:30. Charges are pending against Wilkins.
