MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Officials say construction projects on Main Street in Mitchell this spring and summer won’t interfere with the city’s big events. Upcoming projects include replacing signal light poles at First and Seventh avenues and upgrading water and sewer lines on Second and Fourth avenues. Events like the Corn Palace Festival, Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo Parade, and the Pre-Sturgis Party will go on as scheduled. The signal pole project is happening because large trucks have been hitting the poles at those intersections, and the city plans to move them further back. It’s set to wrap up by July 19, just in time for the Pre-Sturgis Party. The resurfacing and infrastructure work should be done by October and is reportedly coming in under budget. These updates are part of a bigger plan to improve Main Street, funded by a special tax from local businesses and support from the city.
