MITCHELL, SD (April 13, 2021) – Walk-ins will be welcome at a free Avera Queen of Peace vaccine clinic from 2-6 p.m. Friday, April 16.

Appointments made in advance are preferred for planning purposes, but they are not necessary.

The clinic will be held in the Avera Patient Financial Services building located at 1308 West 15th Avenue (on the Highway 37 bypass next to Floor to Ceiling).

The Pfizer vaccine will be offered, so the clinics is open to those 16 years and older.

Area residents seeking vaccination can go to Avera.org/covid-vaccine and click on the online form to sign up for a vaccine appointment. After answering screening questions to ensure you qualify for the vaccine, you select your community and can see available appointment times.

Avera is recommending that everyone get the COVID-19 vaccine, regardless of whether they have recovered from a previous COVID-19 infection. According to the CDC, there is not enough information currently available to say if or for how long after infection someone is protected from getting COVID-19 again; this is called natural immunity. Early evidence suggests natural immunity from COVID-19 may not last very long, but more studies are needed to better understand this.
