A new report from WalletHub compares the 50 states across 52 key indicators of livability. South Dakota ranked 17th. Jill Gonzalez of WalletHub says the criteria used in the report ranged from housing costs and income growth to education rates and quality of hospitals.
“South Dakota did very well in a couple of metrics including the current economy and safety numbers. South Dakota did not do as well when it comes to education and quality of life, so looking at everything from high school graduation rates and public school systems to things like nightlife options – that’s where South Dakota could be doing better,” according to Gonzalez.
New Jersey topped the list, while New Mexico was at the bottom. Minnesota and Wisconsin were 5th and 6th,respectively. Iowa was 9th, and North Dakota was 15th.
