The 3B district tournament continued last night in Chamberlain and it was the Chamberlain Mallards battling the Wessington Spring Owl where the winner is in the State Baseball Tournament. This game was all pitching early as Parker DeJean tossed a complete game shutout as Wessington Springs beat Chamberlain 11 to nothing and qualified for the state tournament Tuesday. Parker DeJean allowed just four hits and a walk in seven innings, striking out 10 batters to earn the victory.

Dylan Schimke drove in two runs on three hits, including a double, Landon Cleveland had two hits, a double, and two RBIs, Clay Olinger drove in two runs, Cade Mohling had two hits and two RBIs, Tyson Lien drove in a run on two hits, while Trevor Kenobbie and Blake Larson tallied a hit and an RBI in the win. For Chamberlain, Braydon Kreofsky took the loss, surrendering four runs on seven hits and a walk in four innings. Ian Anderson, Evan Steiner, and Rayden Haak each tallied hits in the loss.

Wessington Springs qualified for the state tournament with the win, while Chamberlain will face the Plankinton F&M Bankers in a “last chance” game Thursday at 7:30 p.m. for a spot in the state tournament.

The 5B district tournament continued as well in the Sunshine League last night and again pitching was the difference as Corsica’s Caleb Crist tossed a complete game on the mound as Corsica topped Parkston in District 5B tournament action by the final of 4 to 2 Tuesday over the Parkston Mudcats. Caleb Crist allowed two runs on six hits and three walks, striking out six in nine innings to take the victory on the mound.

Nathan Blom batted 3-for-4 with an RBI, Blake Moke had two hits and an RBI, Kiefer Johnson and Aaron Groeneweg each had one hit and one RBI, Crist collected two hits, while Ryan Buck and Brendan Wentland each had doubles in the win. For Parkston, Jake Weber took the loss allowing four runs on 11 hits in eight innings, striking out four batters. Will Jodozi batted 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs, while Jeff Harris, Matt Malloy, Jake Goble, and Kaleb Weber each had hits in the loss.

Corsica will play Dimock/Emery Wednesday at 8 p.m. for a spot in the state tournament, while the Parkston Mudcats advance to the elimination bracket, facing off against the Parkston Devil Rays on Thursday at 8 p.m.

Friday night is our KOOL 98.3 FM District 5B Amateur Baseball games as we will be in Parkston at the Pond for a winner’s bracket doubleheader.  The first game at 6 pm features the last chance state tournament game followed by the #3 Platte Killer Tomatoes vs the #1 Winner Colome Pheasants at 8 pm in the 5B district tournament championship game. The DWU Men’s youth boys individual Basketball Camps is today Wednesday July 31st and are for youth boys’ basketball players who will learn basic to advanced technique that feature progressive drills that will improve an individual’s game so they will be more skilled at basketball. The camp instructors are the DWU Men’s basketball coaches and players. The youth boys’ basketball camps are designed for instruction and coaching and will be given in small groups to help campers master the skills that are covered. There be a focus on basketball fundamentals and competitions throughout the day. The DWU boys’ basketball camps are for boys in kindergarten through 8th grade. The check-in time is at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday’s schedule is 1:00pm to 3:00pm. The DWU boys’ youth basketball camp is $40 for k-4th per camper and $50 for 5th-8th. The Mitchell High School Wrestling Camp is on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday August 5th, 6th and 7th. The Mitchell Youth Wrestling Camp will offer wrestling instructions to students in grades Kindergarten-6th grade. Campers can expect to participate in fundamental wrestling drills, learn wrestling techniques, and play wrestling specific games. The Mitchell High School Wrestling Camp is for both boys and girls and the cost is $54 and the start times are the same on all days. Session 1 is for k-2nd grades and starts at 3:00pm and ends at 4:45pm. Session 2 is for 3rd-6th starts at 5:00pm and ends at 6:45pm. Mitchell High School Wrestling Camp is at MHS Wrestling Room or Main Gym Campers should bring a T-shirt, shorts, a water bottle, and wrestling shoes (campers can participate in socks also) InstructorsJagger Tyler, Lane Miller, and Baker Haar.
