Mitchell Kernels
The cross country athletes will get back into action tomorrow afternoon. They are set to travel to run in the Watoma Cross Country Invite at 2pm. They’ll be competing against Watertown at the Watertown Municipal Cattail Golf Course.
Lots of Kernel volleyball action went down yesterday. The varsity headed to Watertown to battle the Arrows, and they were unable to come away with the win. The ended up losing in straight sets to Watertown, 3-0. They’ll get a chance at another win tomorrow when they face Sioux Falls Roosevelt. All Kernel volleyball teams will play again tomorrow. With the JV beginning at 4:30pm, followed by the Sophomores at 5:30pm and finally with the varsity at 7pm.
The soccer teams didn’t end exactly how they had envisioned. The boys fell to Aberdeen Central 3-0 at home and the girls match ended in a 3-3 tie. Both teams will return to action again tomorrow though. The boys varsity will go on the road to take on James Valley Christian at 3pm and the girls varsity will remain home to face West Central at 4pm. Boys JV will play at 5pm after varsity and girls JV will play here after the varsity girls. All games being played at Joe Quintal Field.
The freshman will be playing some football tonight and will be on the road. They’ll be traveling to Watertown to take on the Arrows – looking to avenge the loss the varsity fell victim to a couple of weeks ago. Their game will begin at 4:30pm.
Dakota Wesleyan
Each of the Tiger golf teams have been competing in the Tatanka Fall Invite the last two days. Results include a trio of Tigers who finished with a total score of 160 or less through 36 holes of golf across two days. Those being: Peyton Bettcher (160), Ashton Austreim (160) & Conner Calahan (156). The women finished the Tatanka Fall Invite in first place and the men finished in second.
The Tigers had a matchup against the Mount Marty Lancers last night as they looked to get back above .500 overall. They gave it all they had but were unable to get the win. The Tigers had four different players with 10 or more kills. Though they ended up dropping the last two sets after a 1-1 start and lose in four sets, 3-1.
WNBA
A pair of Game 2 WNBA Semifinals matchups went down last night and both were interesting from start to finish. The New York Liberty escaped the Las Vegas Aces due to another solid game from Sabrina Ionescu, who finished with 24 points & nine rebounds. Liberty win Game 2, with an 88-84. Now with a 2-0 series lead and one win away from a trip back to the WNBA Finals. Afterwards, it was the Connecticut Sun vs the Minnesota Lynx. The Lynx ended up being the winners in this one to tie the series at 1-1. Minnesota was led by Courtney Williams who finished with 17 points, and they win Game 2, 77-70.
MLB
Playoffs in the MLB began last night with four opening round games. Beginning with the No. 6 seed Detroit Tigers vs the No. 3 seed Houston Astros. The Tigers brought in three runs in the top of the second and never looked back. Holding on to beat the Astros, 3-1. The next game was the No. 5 seed Kansas City Royals vs the No. 4 seed Baltimore Orioles. Only one run was scored in the game, and it was by the Royals. They took the first game of the series, 1-0. Third game of the night was the No. 6 seed New York Mets vs the No. 3 seed Milwaukee Brewers. The game included far more action, and many more runs scored. The Mets doubled up the Brewers and emerged victorious, 8-4 in Game 1. The final game was the No. 5 seed Atlanta Braves vs the No. 4 seed San Diego Padres. The Padres came away with the win, 4-0 over the Braves.
