Mitchell Gymnastics
Yesterday, the Mitchell Kernels girls’ gymnastics team opened their season with a multi-school match in Yankton. Mitchell swept their competition, taking the top team scores on the beam, bars, floor and vault. They came in first with a score of 147.35 to Yankton’s 133.8 and the combined team of Parkston/Ethan/Hanson narrowly in third place with a score of 132.45.
On the bars for Mitchell, Bentley Bates was first and Kyanna Gropper came in second. In third was Addison Duba of Parkston/Ethan/Hanson and rounding out the Top 5 were Kernel athletes – Keyana Kelley in fourth and McKenna Auch in fifth.
The Top 5 on beam were nearly all Kernels. Bates finished first, Aubrey Gelderman second, Olivia Prunty in third, Kelley & Lainee Olson tied for fourth and Yankton’s Burkley Olson tied for fourth as well.
The Kernels swept all five of the top spots in the floor competition. Prunty claimed first, Bates in second, Kelley in third, Emerson Smith & Gropper tied for fourth and Gelderman finished sixth.
Likewise, it was a sweep of the top spots in the vault for the Kernels as well. Prunty claimed first, Kelley was second, Lainee Frost in third, Bates in fourth and Sidney Malde in fifth.
In the all-around competition, Mitchell shared the top spots with Yankton. In the top three places, it was Bates in first, Prunty in second, Kelley in third, then Yankton’s Olson in fourth and Marissa Byrkeland in fifth.dre
Next, the Kernels will have a meet on Saturday, Dec. 7 in Pierre at Pierre Riggs High School.
Dakota Wesleyan
Today will be a road trip for both basketball teams. Each team with a 6-2 overall record. The Tigers will be on the road to face Dordt in Iowa at Dewitt Gymnasium. Your No. 17 ranked women’s basketball team will get the action started against the No. 1 ranked Defenders who have a perfect 7-0 overall record, will begin at 6pm. The men’s game will follow with your men’s team taking on the No. 17 ranked Defenders who are also undefeated at 8-0. The game will begin at 7:45pm.
Yesterday, head coach Martin Mueller of the men’s wrestling team announced that Jagger Tyler, Lane Miller & Kipp Cordes will undergo season-ending surgery. They will begin their recovery process and later begin preparations for competition next year. In other news, men’s wrestling will return to action tomorrow. They’ll be here in Mitchell for a Dual against Waldorf in the Christen Family Athletic Center beginning at 7pm.
NBA
Six games on the NBA slate today after more NBA Cup – Group Play games yesterday. A pair of games will be available on National TV. Four games beginning at 6:30pm including the Detroit Pistons at the Boston Celtics, Indiana Pacers at the Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Lakers at Miami Heat on NBATV and the Orlando Magic at the Philadelphia 76ers. Then at 7pm it’s the Atlanta Hawks at the Milwaukee Bucks and the night ends with your Minnesota Timberwolves at the Los Angeles Clippers at 9:30pm on NBATV.
WNBA
This Friday, Dec. 6, the WNBA will have an expansion draft for the new Golden State Valkyrie franchise. All other WNBA teams can submit a list of up to six protected players comprised of those who finished last season on their roster and others whose players rights they currently own. The Expansion Draft will air on ESPN beginning at 5:30pm.
NFL
Tomorrow, it’s more Thursday Night Football to begin Week 14. Kicking things off will be an exciting matchup between the (11-1) Detroit Lions on the road at the (9-3) Green Bay Packers. Set to be one of, if not the, best matchup in Week 14. It will begin at 7:15pm on Prime Video.
