An April winter storm system is expected to move through our region early Tuesday into Wednesday.

Alex Trellinger with the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls says the first round of rain showers will move into the area on Monday evening.  That will turn to snow during the overnight hours.  Winds will also pick up during that time.  Tuesday morning will bring freezing rain and drizzle early.  Icing should be minimal and will melt before turning into a wintry mix later in the day.  Going into Wednesday, we will see a rain/snow mix turn to snow with winds picking up again.  Up to three inches of snow could fall with this system.

The main concerns with this winter storm are icing and strong winds blowing the new snow and creating visibility issues.

A winter storm watch is set to take effect at 1 AM Tuesday and expire at 7 PM on Tuesday.
