A winter weather system is expected to blow through eastern South Dakota over the next couple of days. Jim Murray with the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls says snow will develop late Wednesday night and will continue into Thursday evening with the heaviest snow falling on Thursday afternoon. Winds are expected to gust to around 20-25 miles per hour.
Previous forecasts indicated a mixed bag of precipitation including rain, freezing rain, drizzle, and snow. Murray says that has changed to primarily snow.
He says most areas in the path of the storm will see 4 to 6 inches of snow. A winter weather advisory goes into effect at 3 AM Thursday morning and expires at 6 PM on Thursday.
