MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) Mitchell will start the work week with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 80s Monday before clouds increase and a chance of thunderstorms develops Tuesday. After the midweek rain chances, sunshine and hotter temperatures are expected to close out the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, the best chance for precipitation comes Tuesday night, when showers and thunderstorms are likely before 1 a.m. The chance of precipitation is 70%. A slight chance of showers lingers early Wednesday before skies become mostly sunny. Temperatures then climb, with highs forecast to reach the lower 90s Thursday and mid-90s Friday.

Monday, Aug. 31: Mostly sunny, with a high near 88. West-northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming north in the afternoon.

Tuesday, Sept. 1: Mostly cloudy, with a 10% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m. High near 87. Light and variable wind becoming east-northeast at 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.

Tuesday night: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 1 a.m., followed by a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 62. North-northeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Wednesday, Sept. 2: A 10% chance of showers before 7 a.m., then mostly sunny, with a high near 88. East-northeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon.

Wednesday night: Partly cloudy, with a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m. Low around 66. Southeast wind around 10 mph.

Thursday, Sept. 3: Sunny, with a high near 92.

Thursday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 67.

Friday, Sept. 4: Sunny and hot, with a high near 94.

Friday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 71.
