The 36th annual KMIT Student-Athlete award was presented yesterday afternoon during the Mitchell High Awards Ceremony at the Performing Arts Center to Wyatt Winter.
Winter is a three sport athlete in football, track and wrestling. He was named the outstanding defensive lineman this past season for the Kernel football team. He was captain of the wrestling team and is a two-time state place winner and was named to the ESD All-Conference team. He is also captain of the track team and has qualified for the state meet in the shot put. In addition, Winter is a member of the South Dakota football coaches association Academic All-State team with a 3.5 GPA. Winter also volunteered at many local events.
Mitchell High Activities Director Cory Aadland also announced the new class of inductees to the Mitchell High Sports Hall of Fame, which will include former sports director Tim Smith, Dr. Lucio Margallo, Beth (Ommen) Irish, and Ron Wiblemo Sr. Ceremonies will be held on Friday, September 10th.
It was also announced that Tim Smith will receive the ESD Award of Merit this fall. It is the highest award given by the Eastern South Dakota Conference.
